The Xi Iota City-wide Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta was chartered on the 10th of February 1979 by 10 young women who were students at Wofford College, Converse College, Limestone College, and USC-Spartanburg. These young women recognized the need for a public service sorority for college-level women in the Spartanburg area and worked hard to establish Delta Sigma Theta as a leader in community service. In 1990, students at Furman University affiliated with the Xi Iota chapter and are now apart of the city-wide chapter. Xi Iota has been shaped by its many members who are now doctors, lawyers, college professors, educators, social workers, healthcare professionals, and leaders of all types from all walks of life.
